Have you heard about the unique Norwegian Fjords? Are you interested in national parks, or do you like to visit attractions that are on the UNESCO World Heritage List? If the answer is yes to any of these, you should plan a trip to Luster, a district that has all of them and much more!
Luster Fjord Huts provide accommodation in simple but comfortable and stylish timber cabins right at the fjordside and with magnificent views. They make an excellent base from which to make day trips in all directions, to enjoy the fjord and mountain scenery, study the heritage, visit the surrounding mountains and ice cap of Jostedalsbreen or the glaciers and peaks of Jotunheimen. Alternatively one can just relax and have an entirely stress free time swimming in the fjord or in the latest modern swimming complex at neaby Gaupne.

The cabins are well insulated and heated electrically, so if you fancy a winter visit, you’re most welcome! We have a paradise around us for those who like snow and skiing. In wintertime the Sognefjell road is closed at Turtagrø, so that is as far as one can go. Snow ploughs open the road in spring, usually in early May but it seems to get earlier each year. There is plenty of snow all the way to the top and good skiing conditions until the end of June – often longer! Imagine skiing in the burning sun by day and a fresh dip in the fjord beside one’s cabin at dusk!
Cabins numbered 1 to 8 have their accommodation at first floor level with facilities for five people and a nice beachside promenade with bench seats. There is one bedroom with two single beds and a loft with a wall ladder to three spacious sleeping places. They have a combined living room and kitchen with a separate shower and toilet. Guests have about 38 square meters of well designed living space.
Cabins numbered 9 to 12 are somewhat larger and are located at ground level. They have a double bedroom on one side and a shower/WC on the other. Their combined living room and kitchen is on the fjord side with a balcony/porch so close to the water that one can jump right into it! They have a staircase up to the first floor where there is a bedroom with a double and a single bed. Guests have about 45 square meters of well designed living space.
Those who holiday using Luster Fjord Huts as their base, have plenty to fill their days. Most people choose to take car trips along the fjord, into the surrounding valleys and up into the mountains. All places where nature is most impressive – you’ll love it!
Luster and its surroundings, with its rich cultural history, has much to offer. Many have heard of Urnes Stave Church: dating from about 1130 it is the oldest in the country and famous throughout the world. It can be seen on the other side of the fjord from the cabins and makes an excellent objective for a day trip, either using the ferry from Solvorn or by driving north-east along the fjord to Skjolden and taking the fjordside road on the other side, a stretch called the "romantic road" by many and where there is much to see along the way.
